Mr. John Beechey CBE is an independent arbitrator with Arbitration Chambers. A UK citizen, he has served as chairman, party-appointed arbitrator, or sole arbitrator on international arbitral tribunals in ad hoc (including UNCITRAL) and institutional arbitrations under the Rules of all major arbitral institutions on more than 100 occasions. Mr. Beechey is Chairman of the Board of the BVI IAC and a past President of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC (2009-2015). His term at the ICC is regarded as one of significant reform to, and reinvigoration of, the ICC Court. He had previously served on the Executive Committee of the Board of the AAA in New York and as a Vice-President and member of the Board of the LCIA. In March 2022, he was re-elected to serve a second four-year term on the Governing Board of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA). Before his retirement from private practice, Mr. Beechey was the founding partner and Head of the highly-regarded International Arbitration Group at Clifford Chance (1983-2008). In June 2016, Mr. Beechey was appointed CBE for services to international arbitration, and he is consistently highly ranked as arbitrator by the leading legal directories.

Nicola is an attorney-at-law, arbitrator and the principal of Berrys Attorneys & Arbitrators, a commercial law firm in Barbados which advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial law matters including banking, corporate finance, financial regulation, securities, mergers and acquisitions, merger control, energy regulation, and arbitration.
Nicola is experienced in conducting diverse matters in the energy market including regulatory proceedings. Through her work in the energy market as a former director of the Barbados Renewable Energy Association Inc., a member of the Ministry of Energy’s PPA Sub-committee and acting in legal matters, Nicola has gained an in-depth understanding of the energy business and the legal issues which arise. Previously, Elise held positions as Director and Asia Pacific Representative at BVI House Asia, EU/UK Representative, Director of the BVI London Office, and roles at the BVI International Affairs Secretariat, the BVI Financial Services Commission, and the BVI International Finance Centre, now known as BVI Finance. She has published numerous articles on topics related to the BVI as a premier international finance centre. Chapter of the CIArb. He was a member of the original Working Party commissioned by CARICOM to
produce the IMPACT Justice Arbitration Bill. The Draft Bill has recently been officially adopted by the
CARICOM Legal Affairs Committee, the significance being that the CARICOM Member States are now
encouraged to enact the Bill into law. Calvin is the co-chair of the ITA Americas Initiative Caribbean
Task Force which aims include, raising arbitration awareness in the Caribbean among the community;
implementation of arbitration legal framework; leveraging arbitration activity in Latin America for the
mutual benefit of the Caribbean and Latin America. He is a member of the ICC International Court of

Sue practised at the Bar in London before co-founding the London Office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP the world’s pre-eminent litigation-only law firm, where she was co-managing partner for 12 years. Sue returned to the Bar as a member of Brick Court in 2020, from where she has continued to practise as a KC, sit as an arbitrator and regularly mediate large commercial disputes. She has sat at a Deputy High Court Judge in England, and conducts arbitrations under all the major institutional rules, including being a member of the BVI IAC panel (as well as the LCIA, ICC, SIAAC and HKIAC panels). The Honourable Dawn J. Smith was appointed as Attorney General of the Territory in October 2020. She is the principal legal advisor to the Government of the Virgin Islands, and a Member of Cabinet. She was previously General Counsel at the Financial Services Commission from 2013 to 2020, and Acting Permanent Secretary at the Premier’s Office from 2017 to 2019. Prior to her career in government, she was an attorney firms in the BVI. She is a member of Arbitral Women and CIArb.

Hon. Lorna Smith, OBE has several decades of experience at the highest levels of public service in the British Virgin Islands and has spent the last decade supporting Caribbean Governments, corporations and individuals in various commercial ventures. She played a pivotal role in establishing BVI Finance, a public private partnership devoted to business development and promotion of the financial services industry. Prior to being elected and thereafter appointed as the Deputy Premier and Minister of Financial Services, Labour and Trade in April 2023, she served as Vice President of Bank of Asia as well as a Director of several BVI businesses.
Over the course of her senior-level public service, Hon.Smith has developed extensive relationships with leaders from the business community, international NGO’s and government leaders from around the world. She has been one of the key ‘engineers’ behind the BVI’s rise from relative obscurity to its present position as a top-flight tourist destination and one of the premier centres for global finance. Her unique experience and expertise serving as a facilitator between the public, private and non-profit worlds both within the BVI and between different nations gives her special insights into the challenges and opportunities facing organizations seeking to operate in the BVI and across the Caribbean.
In 2002, Hon. Smith took the helm of the BVI International Finance Centre, which is charged with promoting the BVI’s Financial Services. She worked in close collaboration with the private sector, mounting promotional events in London, New York, Miami, Zurich, Geneva, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Hon. Smith was also pivotal to getting the financial services industry restored in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma & Maria through her leadership and communications skills. She also played a vital role within Government especially on the interim Recovery Board as well as through the Rotary Club of Tortola where she raised significant sums to aid the recovery and to help the needy.
Hon. Smith was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her contribution to Public Service in the British Virgin Islands and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow for her contributions to the service organization, Rotary International.

Mr. Smith is a Chartered Arbitrator with extensive experience in a wide variety of arbitrations involving business disputes. He holds a Masters in International Business Law with Distinction from the London School of Economics. Over more than two decades Mr. Smith served as Course Director for international training programs for experienced arbitrators seeking the Fellowship credential with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He was a founding member of the North American Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and served as Chair from 2005 to 2008.
Mr. Smith is a qualified English and Canadian Barrister currently practising out of offices in Vancouver, British Columbia. As an experienced arbitrator in complex commercial cases, he recognizes the fundamental importance of impartiality, due process and equal treatment of the parties while maintaining rigorous procedural oversight.

Justice Dr. Anthony D.J. Gafoor is the Chair of the Tax Appeal Court of Trinidad and Tobago (Superior Court of Record). He is the Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for the Caribbean Region and the Trinidad and Tobago Chapter. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In addition, he is a Certified Mediator in Family and Civil Matters, Mediation Trainer and a Member of the Ciarb Faculty. With over 10 years of Financial Services experience, Mrs. Kishelle Blaize-Cameron is currently the Deputy Director, Investment Business Division at the Financial Services Commission. Ms. Roberts was a member of the CAS ad hoc court at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Additionally, she is on the Arbitrator Panels of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the World Triathlon Corporation and the Professional Fighters League.
She is a member of the Ethics Committee of the International Floorball Federation and World Sailing’s Judicial Board.
Ms. Roberts is a panel member with the Vancouver International Arbitration Centre and the British Virgin Islands International Arbitration Centre as well as a member of the Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators of ICC Canada.
Ms. Roberts is also a member of the Commonwealth Secretariat Adjudication Tribunal.
Sports Background
Ms. Roberts participated in the 1972, 1974, 1986 and 1988 Arctic Winter Games (in both figure skating and winter triathlon), and successfully summited Mt. Elbrus (2003), Mt. Kilimanjaro (2005) and made the last base camp on Mt. Aconcagua (2012). She remains an avid outdoor sports enthusiast, including running (completed the Boston Marathon), cycling, snowshoeing, kayaking and Nordic skiing.
She was a figure skating judge for over 30 years.
